Reflecting on my first year at Vercel.
I recently celebrated my one year anniversary at Vercel. Honestly, it's still a shock that I work for a company I've admired and used for years. Next.js has been my go-to framework since 2019, when version 9 introduced API routes, which was ages ago. So it's a little surreal to work alongside the team that created and maintains it. It's a whole different level.
Looking back at the last 12 months, I've grown so much personally and professionally, and it feels really good to recognize that. I traveled solo internationally for the first time (and second and third time too 😉). I gave a talk on Core Web Vitals at our company-wide event and got to meet some of my web dev idols in person. I've also gotten to experience firsthand how welcoming and kind everyone has been. I work with so many crazy smart people that it feels weird to say I feel like I belong here, but I love it.
The web development landscape has changed a ton in the last year, with AI tools at the center of it all. I don't write code like I used to, but I'm building and shipping more than I ever have. I even became an official contributor to v0 along the way. The Vercel mantra of "You can just ship things" applies to everyone at the company, and I'm just trying to keep up.
It's wild to think how much can change in a year. I feel lucky to be here, and even luckier that I still get genuinely excited about the work.
Here's to year two: more learning, more building, more shipping, and continuing to get better at working in public by sharing projects and experiments. Sharing earlier, writing things down, and putting ideas out there before they're "perfect" is something I'm finally getting more comfortable with, and I'm excited to lean into that even more.
